This sound resonates even stronger in the scooter community where a fly-over backflip is a novice’s trick, the top pros are going for triple flairs on the quarters and triple backflip on the mega ramp… and double flips are common on the skatepark big box front & back!
Each Action Sports comes with its share of risk (and associated injuries), fueling adrenaline into riders veins. Hard concrete, metal coping and wood paneling are shared by skaters, BMXers and scoot riders, no softening water or snow there!
Contusions and brain issues linked to repeated blows to the head are common among top athletes and rookies alike. It is not only about that one hit, that one time in the session when your head hit really hard, you’ll mostly get up, be dizzy, but you will feel fine quickly… your brain got bruised, it moved inside your head and hit the skull. Like a bruise on your shin, it will go away… Will it? Really?
Pro scoot rider Clayton Lindley - @claytonlindley - counts 18 contusions so far and that’s ahead of the qualifications for the Nitro Circus Games where he will be airing a 43 foot gap with a mix of combo tricks! Doubleback flips included probably with a couple of whips inserted in the mix!
Repeated head injuries have proven to have lasting effects! We have seen in recent years, more information coming from the football and boxing community about long term damages from constant head blows…
Incredibly, most helmets you’ll see at your local skatepark will be a soft shell helmets, popularized by top skaters but not made to handle repeated shocks!

If you want to get protection from impact, better foam is needed but as importantly, your helmet needs to fit, to fit tight, to fit just right, all around…
Based on skull shapes studies (yes those do exist!), S1 modified the original rounded skate helmet adapting its shape to the human head (vs. a watermelon!). Combined with the liners options the S1 will hug your head tight.
